Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced health insurance for going abroad?

The price you pay varies depending on age, gender , destination and previous health issues, best bet is to use the online ones such as go compare etc

As we go for such a long time, we don't bother. We got quotes that were stupid money - I forget, but £'000s. We've used the EHIC in Slovenia, Ireland and Italy and in all cases we paid nothing and had excellent and fast service. It has worked out much cheaper to fly J home for any appointments when he was having an investigation.

Getcover.ie do an OK cover if you have private health insurance , they include repatriation of patient and cover over 90 days but check all this info out before you buy

We have our E 111 from local hse centre and pretty standard travel insurance. We canned our private health insurance in 2010 due to major price increase and dwindling income. Maybe it will bite us on the backside someday, but personally I reckon that insurance companies are legalised robbers.
The amount of exclusions included into a policy these days would fill 3 bibles.
The latest stunt that I hear is that the terms and conditions listed in the quote may not be the same as the policy that you sign for in good faith.

If you're with ADAC they have an add-on for about €20 or thereabouts which gives health cover for holidays of up to 30 days or maybe it's 45 days, phone them and check the exact price, period and cover. I do know that members can have multiple holidays in the year for the premium.

ADAC also do health cover for long stay holidays for which they will quote members, the cost depends on length of stay.
This policy is ideal for those who want cover for overwintering and may be away for many months.

I never knew that, I thought for all the add ons which ADAC offer you had to be a German resident to make use of them. I will have to keep this in mind for when the travel insurance is up for renewal, the ADAC is being renewed today as a coincidence.
