I have vehicle cover with Saga; cost is £96 for the year. Full breakdown and repatriation for up to 7.5 tonne. Make sure you get the correct policy as they also have a 'car' wording that has a 3.5 tonne limit.
Not sure if they cover ROI residents.

I got it for motorcycle trips in the past... they have the world's largest fleet of air ambulances which appealed to me should something terrible happen.

I use RAC. Insurance is on my wife and myself travelling in any vehicle (even one not owned by us , but not public transport) , but looks like it's twice the price of ADAC (£190) . Where could I find an English translation of the ADAC cover, I could only find a German website.

How do you organize this if its only in German.
Can you get different combinations ?
Example .
I am going with my Son to Switzerland, He is returning with his Girlfriend.
I am going walkabout.
Then I am returning to France later in the year with my wife
How do we get breakdown cover for that. when I am really only interested in getting the van home. In German.

We are with a ADAC too. Really recommend them. They sent a lorry tow track to get us out of mud in Portugal. In the UK when we broke down the AA sent car low loader which was really touch and go when they put our motorhome on it - after a 5 hour wait!
As ADAC is for the person not the vehicle, it does that sound as if it not be will be suitable for you. Unless both you and your son both take it out.
The process is quite simple ... ring them up to get sent a membership number. Then ring up to pay for the ADAC PLUS membership. PLUS is vital as it covers non-German residents.

I've always used and been happy with Stewarts in Dublin, happy to sell up North and cover Europe with breakdown and recovery cover. Needed it a couple of years ago on the way to the boat and they were straight out, no questions asked.
