On our last 3 or 4 trips I noticed the fuel gauge starting to drop to near empty then go up and down even though plenty of diesel in the tank,

My van is 2001 x230 ducato,

Any body have this trouble?

It's not the end of the world as from full I know I can get the guts of 500k from a full tank but nice to keep an eye on things all the same

Max

The sender is most likely a ballcock type arrangement situated on the top of the tank.
Hand a similar problem a long time ago and found that the float had failed. Take it out I know it was a long time ago but mine was copper so a bit of solder did the job

By the way you must have a very light foot to get 500,000 between fill ups :P

Found a remedy to this at last,

Very similar to this lad but my box is different, I took out the little PC board and cleaned it with contact cleaner,
Hey presto it works a treat,

I previously had taken the sender up out of the tank cleaned it and re fitted but made no difference so i kept looking from time to time and found this clip,
