Why are motor homes with 5 seat belts so rare?

Hello all,

My wife and I have started looking for a motor home. We are looking for one with 5 proper seat belts where all seats face forward. Is this possible? We are looking for something relatively modern...we are thinking 2010 or newer. We are in the Rep. of Ireland. Any suggestions?

It might be tricky to find a van with 5 front facing seats. A few things to consider.

-What's your budget?
- do you have a C class or standard B class licence- this will determine what size van you can consider. B class (standard car licence) limits you to 3.5 tonne vehicles.
-check out some of the dealers advertised on MHC. Ideally click on their links on the "support MHC" page Ally has made- it helps let the advertisers know their money is well spent, and helps keep Ally off the streets....
- read reviews - try Out&aboutlive.com and Practical Motrohome. Both have good archive reviews.
- if buying privately, or via Done Deal etc, DEFINITELY get independent assessment of the condition. Especially damp check, vehicle history, etc and get a vehicle background check.

And finally, if you see something you like the look of, post details to MHC and I guarantee you'll get loads of good advice and tips. Chances are another member would even be happy to check it out with you, there are members all over the country!

Good luck and post updates of your progress!

Hi there,
Try looking on brokers4motorhomes.com. Seen a hymer on it with 4 forward seats, they have a good selection. We viewed one with them before buying privately but the guy was very helpful and had all the necessary checks and tests done.
Best of luck with the search!

I don't think you will ever find anything that will tick all your boxes.

Very true. Compromise is the key.

@ bob the builder The story goes "you're third van is the right van"

Might also be a good idea to start with less box's and then add when you get something

I very much doubt that you will ever find a useable motorhome with 5 berths driveable on a class B license I have seen a 6 berth but in my opinion it wasnt useable.

you are limited to 3500kg if you consider 5 people at 75kg each, water, fuel, battery, gas, food, clothing and the various 'stuff' we all take with us then you are left with very little for the actual motorhome itself, many 4 berth motorhomes are pretty marginal and I read recently of someone who bought a motorhome and called in at a weigh bridge and with just the driver, minimal fuel and water it was just 60Kgs short of maximum weight !

If you have a 7500kg license then Im sure that you will be able to finsd what you need - but it wont be cheap
