empty all water from water system then inflate a balloon and put it over taps and let it rip it blows all residual water away then leave the taps open

Good tip.

Do motorhome taps not a have a non return valve then?

I thought the only way to clear the system was to force air from the tank end

So, will this work for pressure switched system cobra rob or is it only the micro switched system? I'm new to the motorhome scene but in the caravan which we had before, the system was micro switched from an external submersible pump and aquaroll. The motorhome has a central on board pump fed from the on board tank.

I was collecting our motorhome from LTS tonight and I asked Simon about this. He said it would work on my taps as they don't have a non return valve.

He also mentioned that the electronic valve only lets the water out of the boiler and not the taps.
He said release the boiler water then open all the taps to get the water out of the rest of the system.

I drained my system when we got back on Sunday.
There was no way I could blow back through any of the taps. The must be a valve somewhere in the system.

Boiler drained
Tanks drained
Taps opened
Handbrake off
Moisture trap in

This should do us for the next four or five weeks if we can't get away.

Draining MH Water

 ·

Perhaps I have over engineered my solution to winter draindown. I cut the pipe between cold water tank and water pump and installed an open/close tap (to stop air blowing into the non airtight tank) and a tyre valve between the pump and the tap.
Attach my 12v air compressor and blow the water out - when you open a tap the water really shoots out. A lazy mans option I admit.

My other tip that I picked up from a friend is to buy two pairs of Fiamma Wheel Savers to reduce the flat spot problem of stationary tyres during the winter. You can screw them down and just drive onto them or use a jack to lift the tyre a little. Much easier than using winter wheels,

But what am I talking about - Spring is here and we will be off again soon.

Happy 2017 camping everyone.

I'm not sure those wheel chocks do the threw any good or not. I put my motorohime on 4 of them last year and don't think it made any difference.

One good thing about them is you can leave the vehicle without having the parking brake on for long periods .

Wheel Savers

 ·

If you get one extra year use of your tyres because you used wheel savers they will have paid for themselves.
I think they will help reduce "flat spot" syndrome (using the MH all year round does this too).
I am paranoid about tyres and regularly check for wall cracks and run with Tyre Pal tyre monitors.
No problem so far in 10 years of motorhoming.

Mine are never long enough in the one place to get flat spots, why buy a motorhome and park it up for the winter.
They are made to be used.
